Curriculum Structure
Students study one subject from each of the six subject groups:
- Studies in Language and Literature
- Language Acquisition
- Individuals and Societies
- Sciences
- Mathematics
- The Arts
The IB recommends that each student must choose one subject from each group, ensuring breadth and depth of study. However, there is an option available to take two subjects from either Group 3 or 4 if Group 6 is dropped altogether.
In addition a Diploma Student must also pursue the DP Core.
Core Components:
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK) – encourages critical thinking about knowledge itself.
- Extended Essay (EE) – an independent, 4,000-word research project.
- Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) – experiential learning through community service, arts, and physical activity.
In short, the IB Diploma Programme is a highly respected program, blending academic excellence with personal growth through its unique mix of subjects and core components.
At CNS Subject Selection is a detailed process involving the student, parents, the Principal, the Diploma Program Coordinator and the Head of the Academic Guidance Counsellor. Subjects are chosen on the basis of the students’ affinity and liking towards a subject, grades obtained in same or similar subjects in grade 9 and 10 and the future course of study.
