Shri Chatrabhuj Narsee
The words above beautifully encapsulate the life and legacy of Shri Chatrabhuj Narsee, the visionary behind our school. A legend in his own time, he was an industrialist, educationist, and philanthropist whose story of perseverance and triumph spans over a century. His life was one filled with discipline, respect, and an unwavering spirit of kindness, and the values he lived by continue to inspire us all.
Born on December 5, 1924, Shri Chatrabhuj Narsee was the oldest son of Seth Narsee Monjee and Smt. Jamnabai Narsee. At the age of just 20, Shri Chatrabhuj Narsee took on the heavy mantle of family responsibilities after the loss of his father, Seth Narsee Monjee. As the Managing Director of Golden Tobacco Ltd. and Golden Chemicals Ltd., his strategic vision and dedication helped shape an industry while embodying the Swadeshi movement's ideals. His simple Gandhian attire and nationalistic beliefs made him a well-known figure in political circles, earning admiration from leaders like Smt. Indira Gandhi, Shri Morarji Desai, and General Kripalani for his principles and integrity.
Shri Chatrabhuj Narsee, beyond his business achievements, was a true educationist at heart - a ‘Karamyogi’ who believed in the transformative power of education. Saint Mother Teresa once visited him to discuss their shared goal of making the world a better place, underscoring his commitment to humanitarian causes. At the age of 55, he chose to step down from the Chairmanship of Golden Tobacco and Golden Chemicals to devote his time and energy to the cause of education. His deep involvement in building educational institutions in Vile Parle and Juhu, from preschool to post-graduate levels, laid the foundation for a vibrant educational hub and a thriving community.

The goal isn't to live forever; the goal is to create something that will.
–Shri Chatrabhuj Narsee
(1924 - 1998)
Though he had no formal education in management, Shri Chatrabhuj Narsee’s practical wisdom and leadership were unmatched. He humorously remarked, "My vocabulary is limited, but turnover is great." His leadership style was defined by respect and assertiveness, fostering a collaborative work environment. His contributions extended beyond business, serving as the president of Nanavati Hospital for 28 years and leading the Vile Parle Kalavani Mandal for 25 years.
Shri Chatrabhuj Narsee also made significant contributions to education through the establishment of the Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics and the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, under the Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal. He introduced skill-based learning over 50 years ago, long before it became a standard in education. In 1971, along with his brothers, Shri Pratap Narsee and Shri Dharamshi Narsee, he founded the Narsee Monjee Educational Trust, which today runs Jamnabai Narsee School, Vileparle, Jamnabai Narsee International School, Vileparle and Jamnabai Narsee School, GIFT City, Gujarat among other institutions. His vision for education was not just to impart knowledge but to empower future generations to become global citizens rooted in tradition.
It can be truly said that with his demise on 2nd October 1998, Shri Chatrabhuj Narsee's legacy is more than his numerous achievements—his genuine empathy, his personal involvement in every cause, and the enduring values he instilled in the lives he touched, lives on through his family and the many people who walked through the portals of the educational institutions he shaped. Though he is no longer with us physically, his spirit continues to guide our school, shaping the education and values we impart to each student.
A teacher must be an eternal learner, therefore in-service training is of
primary importance.
In all aspects of school management and administration, extrav-agance must be
curtailed and values of thrift encouraged.
A teacher, like a flame, has to enlighten his/her student and the student must
strive to excel in all endeavours. The child must learn to excel for his/her own
sake. Self-study must be an integral feature of the child's education.
